Product Details

Can I Take Tru Niagen Indefinitely?

Yes, our capsules are intended to be taken indefinitely as a dietary supplement. Tru Niagen® is most effective when used daily over an extended time.

How Much Tru Niagen Should I Take?

Tru Niagen 300mg is our original recommended serving and our first-ever product to launch. In 2019, we published a clinical study in Scientific Reports showing an NAD+ increase of about 50% in participants, with no adverse effects. We also gained United States FDA acceptance for Niagen (our patented form of nicotinamide riboside) as a New Dietary Ingredient at 300mg.
We’ve come a long way since launching in 2017, and so has the science. We now recommend 300mg of Tru Niagen as a daily minimum serving to maintain elevated NAD+ levels and sustain healthy-ageing benefits..

Is Tru Niagen Designed for Both Women and Men?

Tru Niagen® is for anyone over the age of 18. If you are pregnant, nursing, or taking other medications, please consult with your healthcare practitioner.

What Makes Tru Niagen Worth the Cost?

The cost of Tru Niagen® truly reflects our dedication to the quality of our product. We only use the finest ingredients and ensure efficacy and purity through a total of 22 internal and third-party quality control tests

Our price also reflects the considerable time and effort dedicated to progressing the science behind our product, putting Niagen® at the forefront of 30+ published clinical and 200+ preclinical studies. These studies help us fortify our existing science and explore additional benefits.

Where Can I Find the Expiration Date?

The expiration date for your order is printed on the bottom of your bottle of Tru Niagen®.

Do You Offer Any Free Trials or Sample Sizes?

We’re excited you want to try Tru Niagen®!  The nature of our product recommends daily use up to and beyond eight weeks to experience the full benefits of increased NAD+*. Because of this time frame, we do not offer samples or trial size options for our product.

Can I Take Tru Niagen with Prescribed Medications?

To date, there are no known contraindications for Niagen® nicotinamide riboside (NR), the key ingredient in Tru Niagen® products. But we always recommend checking with your healthcare practitioner if you are taking any medications.

Do I Need to Refrigerate Tru Niagen?

No, Tru Niagen® does not need to be refrigerated. Tru Niagen is formulated with a crystalline form of nicotinamide riboside (NR) chloride, a shelf-stable ingredient when stored under the recommended conditions listed on the Tru Niagen bottle. Also, ChromaDex specifically formulates products with overall stability and quality in mind. All ChromaDex products undergo rigorous internal testing and development to ensure the bottle contains what is claimed on the Tru Niagen label.

What Is The Ideal Way To Store Tru Niagen®?

For best results, store Tru Niagen® in a cool, dry place to help extend the product's life through the expiration date. But Tru Niagen will maintain its quality, safety, and potency during exposure to high temperatures (100-130 degrees Fahrenheit) for short periods, such as product shipment duration.

What Is Tru Niagen?

Tru Niagen® contains a unique supernutrient known as nicotinamide riboside (NR). Our patented and FDA-notified product boosts NAD+, an essential molecule that is vital to the healthy functioning of your cells. Boosting your NAD+ with Tru Niagen supports muscle, brain, and heart§health, cellular energy production and repair.

What Should I Expect to Feel?

As with any supplement or new health routine, your experiences will vary depending on your age, diet, exercise, and sleep habits. Tru Niagen® increases NAD+ levels shortly after you begin taking it and maintains elevated NAD+ levels with daily supplementation. Everyone experiences different results based on their individual needs and lifestyle, but Tru Niagen is working at the cellular level—so even if you don’t necessarily feel anything, you can rest assured that it’s helping your cells stay energised and resilient in the face of everyday stressors.

Is Tru Niagen Natural?

The active ingredient in Tru Niagen® is a supernutrient known as nicotinamide riboside (NR). It is structurally and functionally identical to naturally occurring nicotinamide riboside found in trace amounts in milk. Tru Niagen uses a patented form of this nature-identical ingredient to provide a more commercially viable and potent product.

Should I Adhere to Any Dietary Restrictions While Supplementing with Tru Niagen?

There are no specific dietary restrictions to follow while supplementing with Tru Niagen®. Tru Niagen is formulated without nuts or gluten and does not contain caffeine, animal byproducts, or artificial colors or flavors.

Why Are My Capsules Not Filled All the Way?

The empty space in our capsules relates to the density of our active ingredient, nicotinamide riboside (NR). Our ingredient is more compact, which can give the appearance of an under-filled capsule. The capsules are filled by weight rather than by volume to ensure they meet our specifications for potency. Each Tru Niagen® capsule contains the precise milligram measurement of nicotinamide riboside stated on the product label and confirmed by testing.

Can I Take Tru Niagen with Alcohol?

While there are no published human studies examining the combined effect of consuming alcohol and Tru Niagen®, there is no specific reason to avoid taking Tru Niagen with alcohol. However, we still recommend that you speak to your healthcare practitioner before adding a new dietary supplement to your routine.

Can I Take Tru Niagen with Other Supplements?

Tru Niagen® is not known to negatively interact with other ingredients or products. However, we cannot account for the safety of outside ingredients. You should always follow the directions on the label and consult your healthcare practitioner with any questions.

Can I Take Tru Niagen with NSAIDs?

Tru Niagen® has no known negative interactions with NSAIDs. If you have any questions or concerns, we recommend consulting your healthcare practitioner prior to use.

Can I Take Tru Niagen While Breastfeeding?

Though trace amounts of our key ingredient can be found in human breast milk, we do not yet have any research evaluating the safety of Tru Niagen® supplementation while breastfeeding. We recommend consulting your healthcare practitioner prior to use.

Can My Child Use Tru Niagen?

Tru Niagen® is not intended for use by children, although there is no specific reason that they should avoid Tru Niagen. However, more studies evaluating its safety in children are needed.

Will Tru Niagen Affect My Athletic Performance?

Tru Niagen® helps support cellular energy production by increasing NAD+ levels. NAD+ is a vital cellular resource that helps support cellular energy production (ATP). This energy powers everything our cells and bodies do and helps muscle function before, during, and after exercise. Cellular energy is needed for muscle contractions in the body and NAD+ helps support this process. NAD+ is also critical for cellular repair, including skeletal muscle repair.

Oh No, I Took Two 300mg Capsules! Will I Be Okay?

Yes, not to worry! Tru Niagen® has been shown to be well tolerated up to 2,000 mg/day in human clinical studies, and many published human studies have been conducted using 1,000mg per day. Study participants did not experience any attributable adverse effects throughout any of these studies. Ultimately, how much Tru Niagen you choose to take comes down to what feels right for you and your body.

Are Tru Niagen Products Old or Expired on Amazon?

Absolutely not! Tru Niagen® products are always made and sold new regardless of where you purchase.

Safety

Is Tru Niagen Third-Party Certified?

Third-party certification refers to the practice of an independent body assessing if a product meets a set of predefined standards for quality. ChromaDex utilizes both Alkemist Labs and NSF International as third-party certifiers—organizations committed to ensuring products are made to high-quality standards.

Tru Niagen products are part of the Alkemist AssuredTM certification program, which you can learn more about here and here.

Science

What Is the Difference Between Tru Niagen and NAD+?

Tru Niagen® is a supplement that safely increases the production of NAD+, a vital coenzyme found in every cell in the body. The active ingredient behind Tru Niagen, nicotinamide riboside (NR), is an NAD+ precursor—a building block in the process of NAD+ creation. It helps boost NAD+ levels to support cellular energy and repair, muscle health, heart health§, brain health, and more.

§ In combination with a healthy lifestyle.

What Is the Difference Between NAD+ and NADH?

NADH is the reduced form of NAD+. They are two forms of the same coenzyme.

Why Not Just Take NAD+ or NADH to Boost My NAD+ Levels?

NAD+ and NADH are significantly larger molecules than nicotinamide riboside (NR) because they contain two large phosphate groups. The size and presence of the phosphate groups prevent them from entering cells directly. NAD+ and NADH must be broken down into smaller components before they can enter cells.

Conversely, a large body of evidence shows that NR can pass directly into cells, safely and effectively increasing NAD+ levels. At this time, no studies have been conducted comparing NR and NADH or NAD+.

Does This Product Increase Sirtuin Activity?

Several published preclinical studies demonstrate that supplementing with nicotinamide riboside significantly increases NAD+ levels and is associated with a 50–100% increase in the expression of certain sirtuin genes. However, no published human studies have yet examined the effect on sirtuin activity. Studies in this area also vary in model, design, dosage, duration, and the types of sirtuins analyzed.

How Does Tru Niagen Work?

The active ingredient in Tru Niagen® is nicotinamide riboside (NR), a supernutrient that effectively increases NAD+ levels. NAD+ is a vital coenzyme ound in every living cell. It is instrumental to the processes of cellular energy production and repair, and confers a vast array of health benefits.

Research shows that NAD+ levels decline by up to 65% between the ages of 30 and 70. When NAD+ levels are low, our cells have a harder time producing the energy they need to function at their best.

What Is NAD+?

NAD+ is an acronym for nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide. NAD+ is a coenzyme found in every living cell in your body.

NAD+ works with other enzymes to support the production of cellular energy and assist in cellular repair. Without it, most of our biological processes would be compromised. Our cells also use several NAD-dependent enzymes (sirtuins and PARPs) to help repair damage incurred from everyday activities.

Will My Cells Become Dependent on Tru Niagen and Produce Less NAD+ on Their Own?

Based on published research, there is no reason to believe Tru Niagen® will negatively affect the body’s natural production of NAD+.

How Much Research Has Been Done on Tru Niagen?

Our key ingredient, Niagen®, to date has more than 30 published human clinical studies that demonstrate it is safe and effective. You can track ongoing registered nicotinamide riboside trials at clinicaltrials.gov.

What’s the Difference Between Niagen and Tru Niagen?

Niagen® is our patented and FDA-safety-notified form of nicotinamide riboside (NR). Tru Niagen® is the name of our product. The active ingredient in each capsule of Tru Niagen is Niagen.

What’s the Difference Between Niagen and NMN (Nicotinamide Mononucleotide)?

While NR and NMN are both NAD+ precursors, the difference between the two comes down to biochemical efficiency. Due to a phosphate group attached to the molecule, NMN must first be converted to NR before it can enter the cell, and preclinical data has demonstrated that NR has a greater NAD-boosting effect than NMN. Therefore, it is more efficient to consume an NAD+ precursor, like NR, directly, rather than NMN.

On November 4, 2022, the United States FDA stated that NMN is now “excluded from the definition of a dietary supplement.” This means that despite its popularity as a dietary supplement, it is no longer allowed to be sold in supplement products.
